This is #ThePursuit of Christian “Mental” Ward.
In my youth, I was never what you call a successful, or even a good student. After high school, I entered the workforce and received exactly the reception you would expect given to a lackadaisical entitled 18-year-old.
1991 I enlisted in the United States Air Force and I found my purpose, my pursuit. My first duty assignment was Ramstein Air Force Base in Kaiserslautern, Germany.
This gave me a greater opportunity to explore my passion with motorsports. It’s it really was the beginning. I was exposed to vehicles and opportunities I never had in my youth. Between the USAF and motorsports, I finally grew and matured into a responsible citizen. I discovered when I apply myself; I am actually a good student if you get to pursue my degree in my off-duty time.
When I returned to the United States in 1994 I was stationed in Nebraska. There I would complete my associates and bachelors degrees, meet my wife and become a commissioned Air Force officer. Over the next 14 years Lieutenant, Captain ultimately Major Ward would live all over the world and experience people, culture, and motorsports that I never could’ve imagined in 1991.
I traveled and lived in Europe, Asia, South America, and even Africa. I raced street cars, race cars, and motorcycles. I rode a motorcycle through Mexico and dragged knee on the track. I continued to mature as a citizen and as a driver, somehow I finished a Masters degree. I brought home trophies and broken machines on trailers. I’ve experienced the intoxicating high of victory and the heartbreak of failure. I stood quietly in turn 1 of Circuit of the Americas and traveled faster than the speed of sound in the back of an F-15 Eagle fighter jet. I touched every corner on the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. I loved, laughed, raced and I pursued. I met amazing people, many of whom I work with now.
Last year I retired from the Air Force to spend more time at home. Even with writing and motorsports at my disposal, there was still something missing from my life. As an aviator, and aircrew member I always felt a sense of purpose and my work.
Last year, a close friend invited me to return to Oklahoma and instruct with a company called Xtreme Xperience. From the beginning, I felt like I found a new family and a renewed purpose.
Yes, I play with supercars for my job. While it might seem a bit silly to say that that gives me purpose. But for so many, this will be the only exposure to a supercar. I think back to my 20s when I lived in Europe and the thrill and excitement of seeing a truly exotic vehicle. Now, I’m bringing that passion and that dream to you. I’m blessed enough to be a part of an experience you will carry with you for a lifetime.
Even a year later, the sound of one of those exotic engines screaming by me at redline makes me smile, and it’ll make you smile too. I spend my weekends with my extended family. Yes, sometimes we’re going to fight like brothers and sisters, but at the end of the day, we all have the same goal in mind. We’re here to bring high dollar, limited-production supercars within reach of the rest of us.
