Ferrari set to reveal 488 GTB, as a replacement for the 458 Italia.

Newly released spy photos from Maranello, Italy, suggested that a turbocharged 458 was in the works. Ferrari says ‘fuggedaboutit!’, and announces a newly designed supercar for the sake of keeping it, Ferrari!

The Ferrari 488 Gran Turismo Berlinetta (GTB), has been officially announced by Ferrari. Thus, confirming suspicions that a significant update would be revealed in place of the 458 Italia. The 488 GTB boasts updated styling to the exterior, while creating a bit of a mashup between the hybrid-hypercar La Ferrari, and the late 458 Italia. No complaints over here!

Even more impressive, is the addition of two turbochargers, strapped to an updated V8 engine. Ferrari released some jaw dropping numbers, along with photos, and a teaser video for the marquee supercar’s replacement. Boosting the smaller but more efficient 3.9L V8 engine, will produce 660hp and 560 lb-ft of torque; which is an additional 64 hp, and 162 lb-ft of torque, on top of the already staggering specs of the 458 Italia. Will it be faster?  Glad you asked!

Ferrari expects the new 488 GTB to hit 0-62mph in three seconds flat, and reach 124 mph in just 8.4 seconds! To put that into perspective for you, it lapped Ferrari’s test track, 2 seconds faster than the 458! No easy task. With the additional power, there are weight savings, and a new active aero-package, said to provide the 488 with 50% more downforce compared to the Italia. More power, more downforce, more speed, and more awesomeness!

We’re not sure when the official release of the the supercar will be. But we can’t wait until the 488 GTB hits the floor at the International Geneva Motor Show in March. Are you ready for a replacement for the future classic, that is the 458? Let us know!
